Advisory committee named for Law School dean search »

Provost Laurie K. McCauley has named a 17-member advisory committee to assist the search for the University of Michigan’s next dean of the Law School. The committee of faculty, staff, students and alumni has been tasked with conducting a broad search and recommending an unranked slate of candidates to the provost. The next dean will succeed Mark West, whose term ended Dec. 31, 2023. Kyle Logue has been serving as interim dean since Jan. 1.

Friese named vice provost for academic and faculty affairs »

Christopher R. Friese, a national authority in measuring and improving the quality of cancer care delivery, has been named the next vice provost for academic and faculty affairs in the Office of the Provost. The Board of Regents approved his five-year appointment, effective June 1, on May 16. Friese will replace Lori Pierce, who is stepping down June 30 after 20 years in the Provost’s Office.

Regents approve faculty promotions »

The Board of Regents on May 16 approved recommendations for promotions for regular associate professor and full professor ranks at the University of Michigan. The promotions are presented below by school, in alphabetical order. Faculty members with promotions in multiple schools or colleges have all their promotions listed under one school or college. Promotions for faculty on clinical or research tracks also were reported to the regents.

U-M launches faculty survey on threats and harassment »

The University of Michigan is seeking input from Ann Arbor campus faculty members in a confidential, online survey to gauge experiences with threats or harassment related to their academic work, teaching or research. The survey — led by the Office of the Provost — launched May 13 and is part of the university’s broader commitment to better understand and address growing concerns and experiences of harassment, threats and intimidation among U-M faculty.

Karen Thole to become College of Engineering dean »

Karen A. Thole has been named dean of the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering, effective Aug. 1. Thole currently is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and director of the START (Steady Thermal Aero Research Turbine) Lab at The Pennsylvania State University, and director of the Engineering Ambassadors Network.
