The Vice Provost for Academic & Budgetary Affairs typically conducts outreach to various student groups to present on the annual budget and discuss budget issues such as tuition and aid. In recent years this has included meetings with:

- Graduate Rackham International
- Student Fee Advisory Committee
- Enrollment Management Student Advisory Board

How Do Students Impact the Budget?
In the annual budget process, academic and service units provide insights into student needs based on their close work with students, for consideration in the collaborative budget planning. The budget planning team also hears from student leaders, student advisory boards, and student organizations and clubs that advocate for the student experience at the University. In addition to these channels, the University also relies on surveys, evaluations, focus groups, town halls and other channels through which broad and diverse groups of students are invited to share input and feedback. Another critical component are institutional measures of student success and satisfaction, such as retention, time-to-degree, graduation rates, academic performance, demand for courses, and participation rates in programs and opportunities.
All of this information influences budget and policy decisions at the University and school/college levels.
Student Budget Advisory Committee
In some years, the Provost’s office has convened a Student Budget Advisory Committee (SBAC). This committee typically meets six times during the academic year to give students an opportunity to learn about the budget process at UM and discuss budget priorities. Interest in serving on this board has been waning in recent years; subsequently the Provost Office has put this group on hiatus to focus on other efforts to reach more UM students and engage more student leaders.
