“Snowfall on Campus” Selected as Winter Scenes Art Winner

“Snowfall on Campus,” a linocut by Bettina Senga in the U-M Center for Global Health Equity

Following the announcement of the 2026 winter scenes art contest for U-M Ann Arbor faculty and staff earlier this year, “Snowfall on Campus,” by Bettina Senga, communications manager in the Center for Global Health Equity, has been selected as the winner.

Artists were asked to capture the spirit of the winter season at the university — a familiar landmark, winter scene, campus tradition, or other moment that feels distinctly Michigan. “Snowfall on Campus” was chosen from among many deserving submissions featuring artwork in a variety of media.

In depicting the scene of familiar landmarks from Central Campus and the Medical Campus, Senga chose a linocut – a relief printmaking technique where an artist carves an image into a sheet of linoleum using specialized gouges or knives.

The print was carved by hand, then colored digitally, blending handmade texture with soft digital hues. Pictures of her process may be found below.

The Office of the Provost thanks and recognizes all participating artists for their submissions.
