Global Career Launch: First-Gen Students Expand Their Horizons
Following its pilot year in Winter 2026, the Global Career Launch program for first and second year first-generation students is accepting applications through Sept. 30.
This course is designed for undergraduate students who want to build confidence, expand opportunities, and make lasting connections. They learn how to uncover and share unique values, passions, and goals, while turning tools like LinkedIn, resumes, and cover letters into powerful ways to build and tell their personal story. Through interactive workshops and supportive discussions, students also practice networking as a skill that goes beyond “who you know” to creating authentic relationships that open doors.
A highlight of the course is a fully-funded, international immersion in London, where they meet U-M alumni and professionals, explore global networking cultures, and grow confidence on an international stage. The goal at the end of the course is to have created a personal networking philosophy, practical tools, and the self-assurance to stand out and thrive in any setting.
By traveling to a global city like London, students can truly expand their horizons and build the cross-cultural skills necessary in today's global workforce. Our goal is for them to return home with the start of a global network and the self-assurance to stand out in any room — giving them the confidence to pursue even more international experiences throughout their careers.”
