Conflicts of Interest and Conflicts of Committment

In Closing

Congratulations!  You have completed the tutorial on conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment.  We hope you’ve found it to be helpful.

There are two final thoughts we want to leave with you…

1.  When in doubt, disclose.

If you are involved in any circumstances that cause you to wonder whether they may create a potential conflict of interest or conflict of commitment, you should always disclose the situation to the appropriate person (your supervisor or your unit’s COI/COC manager).

and the second point…

2.  If you have questions, ask.

Some potential conflicts of commitment and conflicts of commitment are complex matters requiring the involvement of several offices. Federal disclosure requirements can also be a complicating factor.  In view of this complexity, you may encounter situations where you may not have the information you need—or even know the right questions to ask.  There are resource people throughout the University who can help.  Talking with your supervisor is always a good first step.

On the next screen, you’ll learn more about how to certify that you’ve completed this tutorial, and will also find a direct link to an easy online evaluation.
