Confidentiality and Access to Records

By what methods will units protect people’s privacy?

Each COI/COC implementation policy must state the methods by which the school, college, institute, or unit will protect the confidentiality of written records related to potential COIs and COCs.  The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs has recommended that units should adopt procedures for strict confidentiality (e.g., restricting access to written records on a “need to know” basis).

The University also expects its units to help ensure confidentiality by destroying the written records that it purges from its files by shredding or other appropriate means.
