Do I need to be familiar with all these policies? 

You should know that they exist.  Although your unit should ensure that you’re familiar with policies both inside and outside the University that apply to you and that could affect you, the University holds all its faculty and staff responsible for being aware of policies that apply to them.  Claims of being unaware of a policy’s existence typically are not enough for a viable legal challenge.
