President Mary Sue Coleman convened the Presidential Task Force on Multidisciplinary Learning and Team Teaching in Fall 2004. The members of the task force were chosen from a variety of disciplines and areas of the University. They held a series of meetings during the 2004–2005 academic year and met with the Provost and numerous faculty and staff who had been involved in interdisciplinary team teaching efforts or in supporting team teaching in an administrative capacity. The task force concluded that the University of Michigan should launch a central funding initiative combining new interdisciplinary courses and programs with new opportunities for team teaching.
